Pre-departure briefing

Students must attend the relevant pre-departure briefing and complete their pre-departure agreement before taking part in a study abroad, work abroad or UK placement programme.

Attend a pre-departure briefing

All students who study or work abroad, or take part in a UK placement, for credit must attend a study abroad pre-departure briefing.

The University usually holds the briefing in April each year, in Weeks 11 or 12. The briefing gives students essential information from the Global Office, Associate Deans and Insurance.

The Global Office will email students with details of the briefing.

Study or work abroad briefing

For students studying or working abroad in 2026–2027, the pre-departure briefing will take place on Wednesday 22 April 2026 in the afternoon.

UK placement briefing

For students taking part in a UK placement, the pre-departure briefing will take place on Wednesday 15 April 2026.

Attendance at the pre-departure briefing is compulsory. If you do not attend and do not provide an adequate explanation, the University will withdraw your permission to take part in your external programme.

Complete your pre-departure agreement

All outbound students must complete a pre-departure agreement by 31 May.

You can complete the agreement online through a task.
