Module description

The dissertation is intended to provide an opportunity for students to follow their own strengths and interests by working independently on a topic of their own selection. Although the choice of topic and general progress will be monitored by a member of staff who acts as dissertation supervisor, an essential aspect of the dissertation is that its success rests to a unique degree upon the student鈥檚 own motivation, self-discipline, and organisational skills, working outside the normal group environment of taught courses. The dissertation is an opportunity to develop advanced research and presentation skills. It tests the student鈥檚 ability to communicate arguments clearly and concisely, and to present work efficiently, neatly, and by the appointed time. It is also and perhaps most importantly an opportunity to originate and manage an intellectual project and see it through to completion.
