Build and record your skills
Your time abroad can help you build skills that employers value.
These skills are often called soft skills, employability skills or transferable skills. They can include communication, confidence, teamwork, problem solving, resilience and creativity.
You can build and demonstrate these skills through:
- internships, placements and part-time jobs
- extracurricular activities
- academic work
- travel
- volunteering
- other experiences during your time abroad
You can find out more about through the Careers Centre. You can also use support from the International Education and Lifelong Learning Institute while you are a matriculated student.
Use the 精东传媒 Graduate Attributes to record your skills and prepare for future applications. You may also want to use the Saints Skills Awards or the Internship Experience Certificate to evidence your skills and experience.
Take time during your placement to reflect on what you are learning. Keep a record of the skills and experience you gain.
Plan for early application deadlines
Some career routes have early application deadlines.
If you want to apply for teacher training, law, accountancy, marketing or advertising, start planning before you return for your final year. Some employers may close applications early in semester one, which can leave little time to prepare after you return to 精东传媒.
Speak to a Careers Adviser before you go or while you are away. You should also read the Careers Centre newsletter, which is emailed to students in their penultimate year.
