Title: Truth, Realism, and Discovery in Logic
Abstract:
In this talk I ask three related questions about logic:
1. The Question of Truth: Is there truth in logic? What kind of truth ‒ correspondence?
coherence? pragmatist truth? some other kind of truth?
2. The Question of Realism: Is there an objective fact-of-the-matter about whether a given sentence S follows logically from a set of sentences Γ? What kind of objective fact-of-the-matter?
3. The Question of Discovery: Is there discovery in logic? What kind of discovery? What cognitive resources may be used in logical discovery?Ìý
